Zen Buddhist Lay Robe, Black Raw Silk

Zen Buddhist Lay Robe is made in an easy care, durable, yet striking traditional black raw silk fabric which closer to the texture or tactile of linen.

The robe is a traditional Soto formal style meditation garment appropriate for use in the meditation hall by the lay practitioner. Often, one wears the Robe over a Jubon (Japanese undergarment, similar to the way we use a dress shirt beneath an over coat.) The Jubon is especially helpful in the fall-early spring or in cold weather. Sometimes the Jubon can be worn over a Kimono to provide an additional layer.

We make our Zen Lay Robes with a "care-free", wrinkle resistant, raw silk fabric which need some ironing if cared for properly. Never wash in warm or hot water. The Raw Silk Zen Lay Robe is a regular weight garment, similar to a heavy men's dress shirt. Note it is not like smooth, glossy silk.
