Zen Buddhist Lay Robe is made in an easy care, durable, yet striking raw silk fabric.
The robe is a traditional Soto formal style meditation garment appropriate for use in the meditation hall by the lay practitioner. Often, one wears the Robe over a Jubon (Japanese undergarment, similar to the way we use a dress shirt beneath an over coat.) The Jubon is especially helpful in the fall-early spring or in cold weather. Sometimes the Jubon can be worn over a Kimono to provide an additional layer.
We make our Zen Lay Robes with a "care-free", wrinkle resistant, raw silk fabric which need some ironing if cared for properly.
The Raw Silk Zen Lay Robe is a regular weight garment similar to a heavy men's dress shirt.
Black is our standard color, however we offer navy and a creamy off-white color as well. We can create the garment in other colors if you provide the fabric. Please contact us after placing the order so that we may provide you with an accurate fabric quantity before making the purchase.
We make product special order colors, at an additional 15%. The additional charge will be added after we review the order.
Zen Lay robes created in raw silk are not exchangeable, so please be sure to give us your height, weight and chest size after placing the order. This will insure a proper fit. Garments can be taken to a local seamstress for minor adjustments if required.
Please add 20% for sizes XL - XXX.

It took about a month to receive my robes. Overall, they are of good quality (despite not having a tie for the sleeves). These are warm -- I'm uncomfortable in rooms above 70 degrees if I have a kimono and jubon on underneath. Perfect for autumn / winter. The cloth is not silky in texture but closer to a softer linen.
