Selecting a meditation cushion
Tashi Delek! It is very important to select the right meditation cushion, which is sometimes called a zafu meditation cushion, for your body and comfort level. Zafu means “cushion” in the Zen Japanese culture.
Meditation is not supposed to be a forced, unpleasant process like going through military boot camp. If your body is comfortable during your meditation then the experience will be more relaxed. As a result of being physically relaxed, your mind will be able to rest quietly, thus calming your thoughts and developing a beneficial concentrated state of mind. This is why selecting the right meditation supplies should choosen.
In order to select the best meditation cushion for yourself, we have developed an educational video which you can watch to discover which meditation cushion is best for your needs.
The reason there are different kinds of meditation cushions is simply that there are different degrees of flexibility in people’s needs ankles, knees and hips. Additionally, most of you have different body frames. For example, if your taller and have broader hips, it would be best for you to use an extra large meditation cushion. And, if you’re smaller person or need to travel with the meditation cushion to retreats then half-moon or crescent zafu might be better.
