The International Campaign for Tibet presents the Light of Truth Awards annually to individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to the public understanding of Tibet and the Tibetan struggle for human rights and democratic freedoms. It is the most prestigious award in the Tibet movement and is presented by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on behalf of ICT.

With a Special Address by His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Sidney Harman Hall
610 F Street, NW
Washington, DC 20004

Individual tickets will be available online beginning Thursday, September 3 at 10:00 a.m. (EST) at Shakespeare Theatre, or by calling the Harman box office at 202-547-1122 or Toll Free 877-487-8849.

This year, ICT will honor the late Julia Taft, a great humanitarian and true friend of Tibet. Named Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Julia’s energy and enthusiasm for her Tibet work was boundless and, when she left government, she readily joined the ICT Board of Directors. Julia worked tirelessly to make the world a more compassionate place and Tibet lost a passionate advocate with her passing.

ICT will also honor a remarkable group of Chinese who, at great personal risk, have taken a daring step to advance the truth about the situation in Tibet. The initiative of these courageous individuals also supports the Dalai Lama’s middle way proposals toward a lasting solution based on mutual interest and for the mutual benefit of the Chinese and Tibetan peoples. In anticipation of high international media interest in this year’s awards, we will wait to announce the names of the recipients until October 7.

If you are unable to attend, but would like to contribute to help with ICT’s costs of making the Dalai Lama’s Washington, DC, visit and the 2009 Light of Truth Awards possible, please visit SaveTibet.org
