The Rector of University of Warsaw Poland presented His Holiness the Dalai Lama with the Medal of the University and citation in a ceremony attended by students, dignitaries and faculty.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s first public engagement for this current visit to Poland took place Tuesday morning with a talk at the University of Warsaw on “Value of Education & Universal Responsibility”. The university’s new and modern hall was packed with its members of staff, students and invited guests and more than 100 members of the public watched His Holiness’s talk on live television feed in a separate room.

His Holiness said that so long as human beings remain there are bound to be differences and this is why he believes in the importance of Universal Responsibility for the larger well being of the humanity as a whole. His Holiness said the best way to overcome differences is through dialogue and understanding the view point of the other person.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama answered questions from the audience ranging from the current global economic crisis to the recent demonstrations in Eastern Turkestan and how young student journalists can help highlight the issue of Tibet. His Holiness expressed his appreciation for the Polish people for their good motivation to help and support Tibet and asked the Polish people to visit Tibet to find out whether the official Chinese statements of the Tibetans inside Tibet enjoying a happy life was true or not.

The public talk event concluded with the University’s Rector presenting His Holiness with the Medal of the University and citation that said that the Medal of the University was being conferred to His Holiness “in recognition of His Holiness’ great contribution to education for peace and ethics based on love and compassion and for being a great moral inspiration to the world community.”

His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the head of the Tibetan Government in exile as well as a living example of the Tibetan Buddhist religion’s ideals of compassion, wisdom, loving-kindness, joy and equanimity (serenity). He works tirelessly for the welfare of the Tibetan people as well as anyone who will listen to his message of hope and peace.

The Tibetan Buddhist teacher the Dalai Lama teaches that wisdom and compassion are the core answers to living a life with more truth and meaning. These important human qualities are necessary because they both connect us to our hearts, as well as the hearts of our fellow human beings. We do not live in isolation but rather are completely inter-dependant upon the world around us.

In the Living Wisdom series you get a chance to make friends with someone who lives a level of truth which is life enriching. As I read through the Living Wisdom book, watch the DVD, listen to his warm voice richly chanting or look at the images of him, it gives rise to asking what the world will be like as each of us grows in wisdom. Will truth become more available to all of us as we awaken Living Wisdom.

To Your Happiness and Health,
