How Can You Make a Difference in Reducing Global Warming?
Growing at a healthier world and reversing global warming begins with you. You are the tipping point.
Consider these recent facts regarding global warming and deforestation:
Studies show that more deforestation station damage has been done of the Earth’s natural ecosystems in the last 50 years than in all preceding human history! Approximately 80% of the Earth’s natural forests have been destroyed, damage or degraded during this period of time. It is estimated that approximately 50% of this damage has been done in just the last 30 years alone.
The most recent long-term studies regarding deforestation have found that we are now losing our forests at twice the rate that we did a few decades ago. Some of the causes are rising temperatures and droughts which are reducing the forests natural regrowth and recovery rates. In other words, new trees are not replacing those that have died off, or have been harvested. The rate of forest recovery is in decline in some areas. Other causes are of course increases in logging and utilizing of forests for timber, paper and other products.
It is well documented that be deforestation has a major negative influence on the quality of life and our global society. Additionally, deforestation has contributed dramatically to global warming because it reduces the amount of carbon dioxide that can be removed from the atmosphere by forests. The fewer trees, the less climate cushion we have to cool, provide gasious balancing and water absorption from rainfall. This creates a reverse recovery effect in which the increase in carbon dioxide grows, because of burning fossil fuels in automobiles, power plants, factories and other sources, while conversely deforestation deminishes the forests’ naturally ability to absorb carbon dioxide in the respiration cycle.
As result of this trend deforestation currently accounts for 20% of the excess carbon dioxide global climate mix.
As intelligent, concerned, spiritually oriented people it is our responsibility to make a difference. There is so much you can do on a regular basis to reverse negative global warming trends in the world. One of the most important actions you can take will be to plant trees on a regular basis in much needed recovery projects both here in the USA and abroad. Remember, climate is global, and the recovery needs to be global as well.
Here is what you can do to get involved with planting trees which are a big part of the answer to make a difference in reducing green house gases:
Get involved with one of the non-profit Reforestation organizations and plant at least 30 tress per year for yourself and each person in your family. You can make a gift of trees for birthday, anniversary, graduation, holiday presents and just because you love those close to you.
It is estimated it takes about 30 trees a year per person to offset our core current carbon deficit. If you’re someone who travels often via airlines and you my one increase that figure by double.
Educate your family, friends and community leaders about the need to plant more trees in parkways, local parking lots, along freeways, at schools and other community spots that need more trees. Trees provide other benefits as well, such as, habit for animals, and conserve water sheds and to create cool zones where heat is absorbed by asphalt, concrete and building. Trees are the back bone of recovery from global warming.
The organization’s best known organization for their long-term commitment to grow Global Relief are:
* American Forests.org, which allows you to plant trees for one dollar per tree in reforestation projects throughout the United States, South America, Mexico, Europe and Asia.
* Arbor Day Foundat ion whose main mission it is to just people to plant and nurture trees. They have a vast and extensive educational program you can get involved with.
Trees create sacred spaces throughout the world. They provide deep and lasting beauty and balance to our quality of life on the planet. It is one of the easiest things you can do to help reverse global warming. I urge you make a commitment today to get involved as we have for the last 20 years.
Spiritual life, and the life of caring concern people doesn’t have to be only about prayer, meditation and study. Spiritual life is also about taking practical action for the welfare of yourself, your family or friends in the world. When you are planting trees you’re taking one of the most practical steps you can take to the welfare of our global climate
I hope you will join me making a difference today and every day until we’ve restored beauty, health and balance to our global atmosphere.
The quality of our future depends upon the actions we take today, and every day.
Thank you to for joining me in this important work.
