Cancer Full Moon or Sun Festival Celebrations

Written By: Christopher May  No Comment

Many spiritual traditions currently as well as throughout history have observed the essential lunar and solar cycles of nature. The Celebration of the Cancer Full Moon or Sun In Cancer is a continuation of that process. Each month is the turning of the wheel of energy as our Sun and solar system moves through these energy cycles.

It is not an accident that Christmas is celebrated very close to the Winter Solstice. Easter and Pass Over are celebrated close to the beginning of the Spring solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. Numerous other examples of celebrations from civilizations have synchronized with the larger Zodiacal clock.

In the Buddhist traditions meditation in conjunction to the lunar cycles, which are really Zodiacal cycles, is observed on a monthly basis. Cultures throughout Asia, Europe, the Americas and aboriginal cultures have stressed the necessity of understanding the cycles of Sun, Moon and great Universe as best they could. Our knowledge continues to evolve with Astronomy, Quantum Physics and the awareness of greater, and greater energy fields. Even the well known Farmer’s Almanac has referenced the importance of planting in conjunction with lunar cycles and hence solar cycles.

Spiritually oriented students of the Tibetan Master follow what is called “esoteric astrology” in which they have learned that these are important times for reflection and meditation. The author Torkom Saraydarian, a life-long student of the Teachings, has written the following:

According to Torkom Saraydarian, a foremost authority on this subject, he writes about full moon periods or Sun Festivals stating that:

“At the time of each full moon a bridge of contact and communication is established between humanity and higher centers. It is told that this communication line even extends from planetary centers to the Solar Lord, thus building a unique channel between humanity and the Source of Life.

“At the time of each full moon, the moon is blocked by the light of the Sun in such a way that the transmission of the Sun is direct and not disturbed by the moon. Each month our Sun enters into the electromagnetic field of one of the signs of the Zodiac and transmits its energy to earth, either directly or via the ruling planets of that sign.

“This is why the full moon days are called days of opportunity, especially at the exact moment of the full moon when the alignment of all the planetary and solar centers is in its highest state of sensitivity and contact.

“This opportunity for contact is a moment of regeneration, a moment in which one can again contact his lost vision or contact a new and greater vision, charge all his being, and set his steps right on the path of evolution and service.

“The full moon period is the right time to make a spiritual breakthrough for greater cooperation with the Hierarchy of the planet and with the light of the Inner Guide. At the time of the full moon there is a greater opportunity to annihilate many obstacles and hindrances in one’s nature.

“This contact, carried on all over the world with great spiritual centers, releases a tremendous energy all over the plant. This energy makes the Etheric body of the planet more sensitive to the Plan and to Divine Will, and inspires all aspirants to reach a greater vision.”

In earlier articles on the Full Moon cycles of Aries, Taurus and Gemini posted on this website you can read additional information regarding these meditation practices. The key time to use these meditation will be the three days before, the day of and the three days after the repective full moons.

It is highly recommended that you have some regular guidance for developing, stabalizing and maintaining a meditation practice. We offer a complete through FourGates.com.

Meditation for The Lunar Cycles of Cancer or Sun Sign Cancer.

1. Sit in a relaxed position, upright in either a chair or on a meditation cushion. Allow your spine to be erect without tension.

2. Begin relaxing your body over the next minute starting at the crown of your head, moving to the neck, face, shoulders, chest, stomach, waist, thighs, calves and feet. Be sure you let go of all tension by breathing through that area of your body until you are completely relaxed.

3. Release any emotional preoccupations, and fill your heart with a calmness and peace.

4. Allow your thoughts to quiet down, being aware of your breath. When you thoughts become too chatter box-like, just come back to your breath noticing the in-breath, the pause and out-breath.

5. Recite three cleansing breaths by saying the OM softly in a quiet, melodic tone. See all positive energy in the form of light entering your body, emotions and mind with each of three successive OM’s. One Om for each of your three fold nature.

6. Recite this prayer, or another universal prayer of your choosing, pausing between each stanza to allow the light, then the love, then the power of goodwill energy to fill your entire being. We select the Great Invocation because it unifies the energy of Light, Love and Power honored in all traditions in the world. This is a truly universal prayer. If you are uncomfortable with Christ, who is not understood as a religious teacher, but rather a world leader for the welfare of all beings, then use the phrase World Teacher, or Coming Savior, or Coming One, or Returning Buddha, Messiah

The Great Invocation:

From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let light descend on Earth.

From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ return to Earth.

From the center where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men—
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.

From the center which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.

Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.

7. The Empowering thought for Sun in Cancer Meditation is:

I build a lighted house, and there in dwell.

Sun in Cancer or Full Moon of Cancer Meditation seed thoughts:

* What kind of house am I going to build and for what purpose?

* What is my internal and external physical, emotion and mental house?

* Is My “soul”, Higher Self, or Enlightened Mind my ultimate house?

* How do my daily actions build this house?

* And, how can I build the finest house?

Be mindful that every single thought, emotional expression within yourself and towards others, as well as all of your actions build your house on a daily basis. This is the process of karmic construction, maintenance or destruction.

You can write down your answers in a journal or meditating diary which will help establish an on-going journal of your meditations.

8. Say the Mantra of Unification:

The sons of men are one and I am one with them.
I seek to love, not hate;
I seek to serve and not exact due service;
I seek to heal, not hurt.

Let pain bring due reward of light and love.
Let the soul control the outer form,
and life and all events
and bring to light the Love
that underlies the happenings of the time

Let vision come and insight.
Let the future stand revealed.
Let inner union demonstrate
and outer cleavages be gone.
Let love prevail.
Let all men love.

End with three quiet, confident and melodic OM’s intoned slowly. Visualize the benefits of your meditation traveling throughout the lives of those you know and love, and to everyone who might be in need of your prayers.

9. Bless the world – End with your own prayer for the welfare of the world.
